" "Shake My Faith is wonderful! Bravo, Karen!."
National Medal of Arts Recipient Morten Lauridsen

"Our performance of Shake My Faith was a great success. The audience response was
very enthusiastic! It's such a fun composition to perform...and Karen's supportive workshop was inspiring."
Gary Toops, Artistic Director, The Festival Singers, Lake Forest, CA

"Shake My Faith and Judah and His Maccabees are of far greater musical and artistic merit
than the customary nod to Non-Christian religious observations."
John Lambert, North Carolina Arts Journal

SHAKE MY FAITH
A Passover Gospel Story

From the day Moses walked in the desert brush
And had a little altercation with a burning bush,
His kinfolk have had more than their share
Of big bad hard times everywhere.

It was 1314 B.C.E.
When Moses challenged the royalty,
He shook his staff at Ramses the second,
Said, "I'm so tired of your drek and
By sun down if this town still has Hebrews in it,
You'll feel the wrath of God in a New York minute!"
He's gonna shake, shake, shake you up,
He's gonna shake, shake, shake you up.

Pharoah said yes, then Pharoah said no,
He turned on a dime, wouldn't let those people go,
He said, "I like your slave labor,
So I'm not doin' you any favors,
Just turn everybody around,
'Cause ain't nobody gettin' outta my town!"
Just when we thought we were out, you pull us back in!

Ain't never gonna shake my faith, no no, no no,
Ain't never gonna shake my faith, no no, no no,
Though you try to keep us in this God forsaken place,
It's gonna take more than that to shake my faith,
More than that to take my,
More than that to break my,
More than that to shake my faith.

See me stand, hear me cry, let my people go,
Or our magic man in the sky is going to blow,
Let us go like you promised, let us go like you said,
Or a river of blood 'll fill your homeys with dread,
He's gonna shake, shake, shake you up,
He's gonna shake, shake, shake you up.

Let my people go or the Lord will see red,
And slip some slimy freakin' frogs into your bed,
Then he'll bowl up some thunder, and you'll hit the ground,
When all hail's breaking loose over your town,
He's gonna shake, shake, shake you up,
He's gonna shake, shake, shake you up.

Now you listen Pharoah now you listen up,
'Cause I know what never will be shaken up…

Ain't never gonna shake my faith, no no, no no,
Ain't never gonna shake my faith, no no, no no,
Though you try to keep us in this God forsaken place,
It's gonna take more than that to shake my faith,
More than that to take myMore than that to break my,
More than that to shake my faith.
